スズ太の子供であるスズリは、ずっと月食が見たいと思っていました。
なぜなら、彼女は月食のことをお父さんから聞いていたからです。
しかし、それをいつ見ることができるのか、スズリには分かりませんでした。
スズリは毎晩、夜空を眺めていました。
そうこうするうちに、スズリはお月様と仲良くなり、すっかりお友達になっていました。
ある晩、スズリはお月様に月食のことを聞いてみました。
ですが、お月様の答えは、
「分かりません」
でした。
それからしばらく経ったある日の夜、スズリはお月様と会うことができませんでした。
なぜなら、その日は嵐がやってきていて、時々、雷が鳴り響いていたからです。
スズリは雷の音に驚きながらも、安全な場所で雨宿りをしながら、一晩過ごしました。
翌日、少し離れた場所からやってきた一羽のスズメから、昨夜、月食があったことを聞きました。
スズリは昨夜の嵐で月食が見られなかったことを残念に思いました。
今日の夜は晴れたので、スズリは再びお月様に会うことができました。
スズリは昨夜、月食があったことをお月様に話しました。
するとお月様は、
「あなたは私のお友達です。だから、あなたにとって私は遠くから眺める存在ではないのですよ」
と言いました。
スズリはハッとしました。
「私にとってお月様はお友達で、遠くから眺める存在ではないんだわ」
と思いました。
それからお月様とスズリはいつものように他愛もない話をしました。
そして、おやすみのあいさつをして、スズリは眠りにつきました。

Although startled by the sound of thunder, Suzuri found a safe place to take shelter from the rain and spent the night there.
The next day, a sparrow from a short distance away told him that there had been a lunar eclipse the night before.
Suzuri was disappointed that he had missed the lunar eclipse due to the storm the previous night.
It was a clear night tonight, so Suzuri was able to see the moon again.
Suzuri told the moon about the lunar eclipse that occurred last night.
The moon then said,
"You are my friend. That's why I'm not someone you can look at from afar."
Suzuri realized something important.
"To me, the moon is a friend, not something to be admired from afar," she thought.
Then the moon and Suzuri had a casual chat as usual.
